Myth #3 shintô Is shintô
shintô is also not monolithic as implied, and neither are the Japanese peoples.
The Japanese still tend to think of themselves in terms of specific location first, and nation second.
Because of these many different geographical groupings and their cultural roots, not to mention location specific foreign influences, shintô exists in almost as many variants as there are practitioners.
