Myth #9 — They Should Bring Back kokka shintô
No! No! No!
Government and religion are like an oil-fire and water. Mixing the two will almost always result in disaster for the common people.
Governments WILL twist religion to justify their policies and power structures; and religious institutions WILL try to use government to enforce their particular view of how things should be — at least, on any scale larger than a local basis.
The primary focus of any institution is its own continuance; be it political or religious. Any "good" it may accomplish, intentional or not, is secondary to that survival.
In a local community, both the "government" and "religon" are social, not political. The distinction being, social is about living together in a community, and political is about adminstration and control of a political entity — the State or the Nation.
