The Four Riders of Baba Yaga
The stories mostly tell of Baba Yaga's three riders, because you know... stories and the magic number three. As you travel through the dark forest to her hut, you are passed by three riders going hell-bent for leather in the opposite direction.
The first is a rider dressed in scarlet on a red horse — representing the sunrise at dawn.
The second is a rider dressed in ivory on a white horse — representing the sun at midday.
The third is a rider dressed in midnight on a black horse — representing the middle of the night.
Well, there's another rider that the stories tend to omit; mostly because it ruins the whole three thing.
The fourth is a rider dressed in saffron on a golden horse — representing the sunset at dusk.
Baba Yaga was never one to follow the script and four riders suits her just fine. After all if there are four directions and four seasons, why not four riders?
